By Sean O’Connell Hollywoodnews.com: In an incident that strangely mirrored his fictional, publicized meltdown on NBC’s “30 Rock,” comedian Tracy Morgan is taking heat after an anti-gay rant at a Nashville show. Though the tirade occurred a few days ago, the Ryman Auditorium – where Morgan was performing – issued a statement apologizing to patrons who were offended by the comedian’s comments. “The Ryman Auditorium regrets that people were offended by statements made by Tracy Morgan during his June 3 appearance. The Ryman does not control the content presented by people appearing on its stage, nor does it endorse any of the views of, or statements made by, such persons.” Of course it doesn’t. And truthfully, I’m surprised that people would attend a Morgan performance and not EXPECT to be challenged by his material. But by performing anti-gay material, Morgan has invited scorn from both concert attendees and now the members of the support group Truth Wins Out. “Tracy Morgan needs to respond to these allegations,” Evan Hurts wrote on Truth’s Web site. “Comedians have long pushed the envelope in tackling controversial subjects. Indeed, it’s part of their job description, and good comedians are able to do this and keep everybody laughing at the same time. However, abject hatred directed at vulnerable kids is not comedy, by anyone’s definition. If these reports are true, we expect a full explanation and apology.” Follow Hollywood News on Twitter for up-to-date news information.
